Morristown, NJ Maternity Photographer | Prepping For Your Maternity Photoshoot

Here I will give you some tips so you can prep for your big day!

MY RULE #1: Please don’t skip the meal before your photoshoot!

I know you will be a little busy for a few hours before our session, getting ready with makeup and hair. But please, this is important! If you’re hungry, you will be tired during your session and you will only want the shoot to finish as soon as possible so you can eat.

I want to treat you, so snacks and refreshment will be waiting for you when you get to the studio.

What Should You Wear To Come To The Session?

A loose dress and Crocs/sandals with no straps will be your go-to! If it's too cold outside, I suggest adding a warm coat.

Let's be honest! Being pregnant, it gets so hard to bend and reach your feet, and deal with annoying shoelaces or complicated straps. That's why sandals or Crocs will be your best ally. I included a loose dress because tight clothes such as leggings leave marks on your skin. We want to avoid them at all costs, so they're not in your pics.

What Are The Mom’s Essentials To Bring To Your Session?

Remember to add these items on the top of the stuff we already have discussed during our phone call.

  1. Body lotion so you skin is extra smooth and glowy.

  2. Hair oil (I have some with me but if you use a particular product you can bring it) so it can help with the flyaways.

  3. A loose strapless skin color bra and silicone nipple covers (this is optional and good to bring if you already have them). I always suggest making sure your bra is on the looser side. I know its common during pregnancy for moms increase the size of their bra, so if you’re using a pre-pregnancy bra, it will be tight and will create unflattering marks on the side and the back.

  4. Skin color panties, not pink. For using silks fabrics, it’s always recommended to use skin color underwear. My go to for this type of situation is the seamless type. I always suggest that if you’re comfortable wearing a thong type that’s even better, so the side of the panties is smaller and doesn’t show too much through the fabric.

  5. Makeup essential: A gloss lipstick to retouch during the session. I find a gloss lipstick as the perfect final touch. It looks beautiful on pictures and it’s very subtle especially if you’re not a daily makeup person.

  6. Jewelry: if in your day to day you normally like wearing jewelry, I strongly suggest bringing it so we can elevate your outfits.

This is optional and only if you love the idea: If you have any traditional clothing related to your heritage or culture, I really encourage you to bring it! As a multicultural lover, nothing makes me happier than getting to know other cultures and chatting about them, there’s always something new to learn!

What Should Your Partner Wear?

This will depend on your partner’s preferences and dressing style. For a bit more elevated look I suggest dark khakis or grey/black slacks, a button down shirt, a blazer and nice dressy shoes. If your partner is more on the casual side: dark jeans, a polo t-shirt, regular t-shirt, nice turtleneck shirt, no shoes will also work!

If your partner has clothing for both type of looks, I encourage you to bring 2 outfits, so we can get 2 totally different looks.

Some additional details:

I suggest getting your nails done because in most of the pictures you will be barefoot and you will be holding your belly. If this is something you’re not interested in doing, I would recommend making sure to remove debris, clean your nails, remove previous polish, and hydrate your feet before your session.

Make sure to steam your clothing. Believe me, the wrinkles will be very visible on your pics. If by any chance you don’t have a steamer or iron at home, I have one at the studio that you can borrow. This usually takes some time, so if we can save some time doing this, it would be terrific!

I hope all this info helps you and serves you as a checklist when packing so you don’t forget anything! I’m as excited as you, can’t wait for our session!

XOXO,

Francesca
